OWL Curriculum
This year we will be following our OWL Curriculum. Our units this year are family, friends, wind and water, world of color, shadows and reflections, and things that grow. You can find the books that we will be reading for each of these units by clicking the "Supplemental OWL Unit Books" tab at the top of this page.
During the first weeks of school, we will begin with a short "All About Me" unit. This will give us an opportunity to learn about each other, and the many ways that people can be alike and different. We will also spend the first weeks of school learning the classroom routines and expectations.
Preschool Life Skills
Throughout the year, we will also implement our Preschool Life Skills Curriculum. This is a research-based curriculum developed to teach appropriate social and life skills to preschool-aged children. Classwide Motivational System
In order to promote a classroom culture of friendship, kindness and appropriate behavior, the Leaping Lizards will all participate in a classwide motivational system. All of our friends will earn tokens for doing the "just right thing." Each child has their own token board on the wall in our classroom. When a child demonstrates appropriate behavior, mastery of a new routine/skill, an act of kindness, etc, they might earn a token! When a child earns 5 tokens, they may trade in for a small prize, as well as contribute one token to the large class prize jar. When the class prize jar is full, the entire class will earn a reward!
The first day of school is Monday September 12th. Please remember to send in extra clothes for us to keep here at school on the first day. If your child is using diapers, please send in diapers and wipes for us to keep at school as well. Be sure to label everything!
If anyone feels that their child may have difficulty separating from them on the first day of school, please email me and we will work out a strategy for that morning. It can be difficult initially, but once children are in the classroom, they are happy to be here.
